We All have a Right to Be Ourselves
True acceptance is the keystone to living freely and joyfully. But for many – my former self included – acceptance of ourselves and others can be a tough pill to swallow.
Why? Because practicing acceptance means complete non-judgement, yet judgement is what we have long been programmed to do. We judge others as a way to make ourselves feel better or bond (albeit negatively) with others.
Acceptance is the ability to see that everyone has the right to be their own unique person – with their own style, beliefs, feelings - without trying to change them. True harmony comes from our ability to appreciate differences, learn from each other, broaden our world view and perhaps even enjoy the ride a bit more. And this boils down to acceptance – of ourselves and others.
What if we took time to get right with our past and appreciate the amazingly unique person we are? How could that help us accept others for the amazingly unique individuals they are?
Take the time to look within - especially at your perceived quirks. You are who you are because of your past and current beliefs. Be brave to challenge those beliefs and open your mind to new possibilities about the value of yourself and others.
