Burn your self-helpless books.
Instead of banning books that provoke thought and ideas, ban those that are truly destructive - our self-helpless books! All the stories we tell ourselves about how we aren’t good enough, smart enough, worthy enough - all self-helpless and non-productive.
This week, take time to explore each of your Self-Helpless stories. One story at a time, Please answer these questions:
Where did they come from?
How have they protected you?
What would be possible if you believed something different about each one?
Next, re-write each Self-Helpless story in a kinder, more positive way. For example, if you wrote “I’m not good enough,” re-write that now as “I’m good enough, I’m just struggling right now.” If you wrote “I’m fat,” rewrite that now as “I want to make healthy choices so I’m going to get back to eating healthier meals and exercise.” Please make these rewrites your own, personalized to you.
Then, explore how the reframe of each of these re-shapes your story in a more positive light.
Finally, BURN THEM! I’m serious - it’s super cathartic to write them on a blank sheet of paper and set it on fire (safely of course!)
